What is The Park Hill Bike Depot?
The Park Hill Bike Depot is a community-based organization which aims to equitably increase active living opportunities that contribute to the overall improvement of individual and community health. We do this by making bicycling accessible to everyone, regardless of income. One can earn a bike in exchange for community service, become skilled at repairing bikes, take a bike safety, maintenance, or riding class, or get involved in the community by volunteering.
The Bike Depot is also a full-service bike shop that offers tune-ups and repairs performed by certified professional bike mechanics. We carry a variety of accessories including lights, locks, helmets, tools, tubes, tires, etc. We stock Strider Balance Bikes and are a dealer for many brands including Chariot, Burley, B.O.B., Yakima, Thule, etc. We are excited to announce that we are starting to carry Nirve Cruisers http://www.nirve.com and hope to begin carrying Electra soon.
We also carry a wide selection of refurbished bicycles for sale, from classic Schwinns to recent Treks and Specialized and for all ages. Many of the kid's bikes are nearly new!
The Depot's business hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 12-7 and Saturday 11-5. The Open Shop times, where everyone can get help fixing their own bike, are Wed. 4-7 and Sat. 11-5. Our phone number is 303-393-1963. Email for info at info@thebikedepot.org
Rides:
For the past two years The Depot has help organize a monthly neighborhood family bike ride each month from May through October. We are looking to organize more rides this season including both with and without the little kiddos included. We'd like to do rides that explore the trails that connect to our neighborhoods and ones that explore commuting and utility trips - such as to the grocery store. We'd also like to do a ride or two with those stylish cruisers that we all love to ride.
We have enthusiastic volunteers that are planning these and they could always use some help. Ideas about what types of rides are desired, where you want to explore, what you want to learn, etc. are definitely needed as well as help with the planning, organizing, and staging these rides.
Sustainability:
The Bike Depot is a 501c3, non-profit community bike shop whose core mission is to equitably increase active living opportunities that contribute to the overall improvement of individual and community health. We do this through refurbishing donated bicycles and making them available for sale and in exchange for community service by those who couldn't otherwise afford a bike.
Our path to sustainability includes our expansion into a full-service retail bike shop. Your patronage helps us continue our mission of promoting bicycling and making bike available to all who want to be able to ride, regardless of income.
The Depot is volunteer driven and is always in need of assistance. Opportunities range from working on bikes to marketing, accounting, IT, events, fundraising, etc. It's a fun place to give back to the community and learn a few things too. Come join us!
We are always in need of donated bicycles in any size, type, and condition. Just drop it by the shop during business hours. Organized bike donation drives are welcome and supported.
Park Hill Thriving Communities, a LiveWell Colorado initiative, partnered with Recycle Bicycles, the Denver City Bike Planner, local business representatives, Denver Parks and Recreation, and area residents to build and staff the Park Hill Bike Depot.
